Deep learning for Industry workshop

About the workshop

This two day brainstorming/study group hybrid meeting, held at the University of Bath, 19-20 January 2023, was aimed at industries, and other bodies, who wanted to know more about how deep learning could impact on them, and its strengths and limitations. It was run as a mixture of tutorial presentations about deep learning, industrial presentations, and problem solving sessions. Each industry representative was invited to give a short presentation about areas of their work in which they believed deep learning could make an impact.

Four companies attended the workshop, BT, CGG, Visit Somerset and Wessex Water, each bringing with them different challenges. After presentations from the companies, breakout sessions, including a mix of industrialists, academics and students, started to explore the issues and problems raised by the presentations. After the breakout groups, joint feedback sessions were used to inform the wider group about how the problems were approached.

The event was a good opportunity to build collaborations between the Maths4DL team and companies interested in using deep learning.

The next event will take place 14-15 September 2023.
