Dr Silvia Villa
Silvia Villa is an Associate Professor of Operations Research at the Department of Mathematics (DIMA) of the University of Genoa and she is a Principal Investigator at the Machine Learning Genoa Center (MaLGa). Her research focuses on the intersection of continuous optimization, statistical learning theory, and inverse problems.
After earning her PhD from the University of Florence, she held several postdoctoral positions at the University of Genoa and at a joint laboratory between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia. Subsequently, she held a tenure-track position at the Department of Mathematics at Politecnico di Milano.
Her work is primarily dedicated to the development and theoretical analysis of efficient algorithms for machine learning and inverse problems, and she published more than 50 papers on journals or international conferences proceedings.
At the University of Genoa, she teaches courses in Machine Learning, Optimization, and Game Theory. From 2020 to 2024, she served as the coordinator of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN-ETN project TraDE-OPT.
