Reader (Associate Professor) in Scientific Computing, University of Bath
As a Reader (Associate Professor) in Scientific Computing and member of the Numerical Analysis and Data Science group in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath, I develop and implement fast numerical algorithms for the solution of real-world problems.
One focus of my research is the design of bespoke multigrid preconditioners for the solution of partial differential equations. This work helps the Met Office to produce climate and weather forecasts more efficiently. I also work on hierarchical Monte Carlo methods for sampling high-dimensional probability distributions. Recently, I have developed a keen interest in the interplay of differential equations and machine learning. For example, I have used my background in theoretical physics to integrate conservation laws into machine learning architectures.
